Marine Labs at the Aquarium

We offer engaging, hands-on, curriculum based programs for children from P1 to P7, and S1 to S3. These programs allow students to explore our ocean environment and inspire them to be curious, get involved and take action.

Aquarium ABC / patterns and colours

Come to the aquarium to practice your ABC’s, learn the names of some of Tobermory’s strangest sea life, and make up some of your own. Can you count how many arms an Octopus has? Or how many hermit crabs are in the aquarium? Practice counting with the help of the amazing sea life of Mull. Do you love playing hide and seek? Some of our creatures do as well, can you find them all. Practice matching colours and patterns.

This interactive session begins by introducing the diversity of marine life found right here in Tobermory bay, with a walk through of the aquarium. Then its time for a close encounter with some of these creatures to discover how they are truly adapted to life, with live lab demonstrations, time-lapse footage and an exclusive hands-on experience.

This hands-on session begins with a short introduction to plankton followed by a 15-minute film show. Then its down to the pontoons to collect some plankton with our marine expert, who will help students identify their bizarre finds under our microscopes, whilst they discover how they are truely adapted to life afloat.

Microplastics - Beat the Bead!

Ever noticed rubbish on the beach? Join us for our Beat the Bead workshop, where we will be looking at marine litter, in particular at microplastics. Extract microplastics from household products and discover how these plastics make their way into the food chain, and finish by making a plastic-free hand scrub.
